Its the March school holidays! Need ideas on how to teach your kids a great life lesson this week? If you haven't started getting your child to help out around the house, why not get them started doing so this holiday? 🤩
Parenting experts say that we all need to feel needed and to know that we're making a contribution - even kids. "A child has to learn responsibility" so if you think this is a great idea, here are some quick tips on how to get your child on board: 🎢
1. Be specific with instructions. Say "Put your clothes in the closet" rather than giving vague instructions like "Clean your room" 🦸♀️ 2. Ease into chores for children by showing them how to do their chores successfully step by step.👨👩👧👦 3. Go easy with reminders and deadlines using the when/then technique. For example: "When you have kept your clothes, then you may have your dinner." 🍱
Remember! It's better to have a more relaxed approach to how well your kids do their chores so don't insist on perfection and DON'T jump in and do it for them! 🧘♀️ Kids are more capable than you think so if you think your child is too young, check out the link for some suggested age-appropriate chores starting from as young as 2 years old!
As always, be consistent with your child and ensure that they are regularly following through with their responsibilities and DO praise and encourage your child while the chore is in progress in order to build positive momentum, especially with young kids!
That's all for this week. Best of luck transforming your child into your little helpers around the house. 👏👏👏
